Drafts of the constitution of the Concord Auxiliary Society for the Suppression of Intemperance, 1813.

Two draft versions of the Society's constitution, one dated 1813, one undated. Both are in the manuscript hand of Ezra Ripley, pastor of the First Parish in Concord. Each draft is followed by several signatures (the dated draft by those of Ripley, James Jones, and Humphrey Barrett, the undated by those of Reuben Farrar, Charles Melven, John Melven, and E. Barrett).

Society formed in Concord, Mass., "to discountenance and suppress the too free use of ardent spirits and its kindred vices, profaneness, gaming, and idleness, and to encourage and promote temperance, industry, the due observation of the sabbath, and general morality." The Society was auxiliary to the Massachusetts society established toward the same ends.
